Perseid meteors   HOME INDEX BACK NEXT

2023 was a good year for the Perseids because there was no bright Moon to interfere with the viewing. This image shows six Perseid meteors (three bright and three dim), which are those that appear to radiate from a point below the bottom center of the frame. There are also two sporadic meteors (one bright and one dim), which are moving in other directions.

As points of reference, the W shape of Cassiopeia is in the lower right, in the center is Cepheus, and to the left is Ursa Minor.

This image was obtained by taking several hundred 15-second exposures over a period of about two hours and checking for those few that captured a meteor. These were all taken in the evening hours, before thin clouds started to move in.
