Galaxies in Hydra
Six galaxies listed in the New General Catalog (NGC) are seen in this image. Their morphological types vary from a classic spiral galaxy (NGC 2708) to an elliptical galaxy (NGC 2699). The estimated distances to these galaxies range from about 85 million to 150 million light years.
Several smaller galaxies are also visible, and judging by their red-shifts some of them are much more distant, probably more than 500 million light years away.
