Galaxies in Cetus

The large autumn constellation of Cetus, the whale, contains many interesting galaxy groups that can be seen in amateur telescopes. This image shows four NGC galaxies, including the face-on spiral galaxy NGC 1042, the edge-on sprial NGC 1035, the dimmer and smaller spiral NGC 1047, and the elliptical galaxy NGC 1052.

Image details: Exposure times of 104 minutes luminance and 36 minutes each of red, green and blue, taken with an SBIG ST-8300M imager and a 12" Meade telescope at f/6.5.
