Aurora of October 30, 2003 (Looking high in north, Little Dipper in center)   HOME INDEX BACK NEXT

The evening before Halloween brought one of the brightest auroral displays visible in Connecticut in many years.   These are 10 of the pictures we took from our home in Killingworth.

During that day, radio and television stations reported the likelihood of an aurora because of an intense solar flare.  Shortly after sunset, I went out to check the sky conditions.  The evening sky was a deep, dark blue, and I was amazed to see a pink glow along the northern horizon, even though the sky was not yet completely dark!  It was obvious that this was going to be a good show, and it certainly was one to remember.
